Making Paper Flowers

Paper flowers can be put to a number of uses in your home, as well as in your office. They can also be used as gifts that don’t cost a fortune! If you’re looking to make paper flowers, but have never made any before, then this post may prove helpful. All you need to do is follow the steps below.

Paper folding, or Origami, is a relaxing and fun activity once you get the basics down. Well-made paper flowers will last for a long time, and can also be a fun activity to do with children on a rainy day.

To start with, if you’re a beginner, here are some of the technical terms for the folds you are going to encounter:

Valley Fold – Folding the paper towards yourself

Mountain Fold – Folding the paper away from yourself

The Inside Reverse Fold – Using both of the above-mentioned folds and then making the valley fold edge

Sink Fold – Blunting a specific point that lacks edges

Paper flowers might seem difficult to make, but in reality, they’re simple. In order to carry out the process, all you need is some paper, wooden skewers and magic tape. Without any further ado, here are the steps which you would need to follow.

  1. Cut out some square pieces of paper and collect as many as you can.
  2. Fold each of them in a diagonal manner without damaging any portion of the paper.
  3. Fold each of the corners upwards. Then fold each of the triangles you’ve just made in half, making sure that the tips come to point outwards.
  4. Fold each of the tips of the triangle downwards.
  5. Unfold it all, while keeping your hand pressed down on the triangle. Now, with your other hand, re-fold along all of the folding lines.
  6. Now repeat, but this time from the opposite side.
  7. Fold the tips downward again and then fold in the corners. Roll the paper now in the form of a cone and then tap the closed end.
  8. In order to give it a holistic look, tap the petals of the soon-to-be-ready flowers. Try to keep all of the petals till you have a five-petal flower.
  9. Now add in a wooden skewer to be the stem of the flower.
  10. Your flower is ready!

Repeat the process using paper of different colours and designs to make a whole collection of flowers. You can vary the size too. Obviously, the smaller the squares of paper which you use, the smaller the paper flowers you make will be. Try a wide array of styles and designs to make some truly unique paper flowers.
